Choosing Log Furniture Types
If you want to bring that rustic appeal in your place, be it in your home or vacation home, there can be nothing more to look for than decorating it with log furniture. When you speak of rustic decorations, this includes any furniture shaped from natural materials that come from the woods, be it from plants or animals.
Among the most common examples of such decorations are log chairs, rugs from bears, and dear antlers. The log furniture anchors the overall look of the place and is extremely durable when properly made. Here are a few points to consider when buying log furniture.
Size Matters. Consider the area where you want to put in the log furniture. Forget not that too many large pieces of furniture are never ideal if you have limited space. Steam-bent Hickory is an extremely flexible and durable wood. Hickory poles are heated by steam so it can be formed into various pieces of furniture. Once they are molded, they retain the shape easy due to its flexibility but impressively turn rigid when dried. The most-liked and common material made into log furniture is unpeeled hickory.
Northern White Cedar can withstand the stress of the elements without rotting. This wood has an attractive light grain color when fresh but attractively turns into something like silvery gray when old. Naturally, the cracks are there but these cracks are just part of the wood’s natural zest. They do not compromise the durability, function or design of the log furniture.
One from the juniper family is the red cedar – a heavy yet aromatic type of wood that can repel insect and naturally rot. Chests made from red cedar protect the contents from moths and other insects. It is mostly a brownish red with tight knots but can sometimes even be purple. It becomes browner as it ages and you are assured that cedar furniture will last a long time and can be even be heirloom pieces.
